I’ve seen a lot of negative comments about this item. Most of which, I would put down to the purchaser not understanding what this is, what it’s limitations are, and what it is not… First though, a little background to validate my assessment of this kit. I have 8 years of regular service in the armed forces and a further 2 decades of private sector employment experience on close protection and covert surveillance work. I’ve used $25,000+ night vision apparatus on many occasions. This piece of kit is not that… and $25,000+ night vision scopes aren’t as good as most would like to think. They have limitations too.
Most military type night vision uses a phosphor bronze “tube” which works as an image intensifier – it gathers all available light and condenses it so that it can be seen as a green image showing what the naked eye cannot see on its own. These pieces of kit are limited in the sense that unless there is some ambient light (starlight, moonlight, etc.) then they won’t work, and even when they do work, they can only usually see out to around 100 – 300 yards with any kind of definition. Just as with this piece of kit, the high end, super expensive military type kit will only work really well with the implementation of some sort of artificial light source such as an IR illuminator.
Additionally… shine a bright light onto one of those $25,000 military image intensifiers and you’re left with the world’s most expensive paperweight… not so with this system… a bright light will not have any negative effect on the equipment.
To all those people writing negative reviews on this item… if you want the same operating standards as a $25,000 Gen 4 Image Intensifier… then go buy a $25,000 image intensifier (and you’ll likely still be disappointed)… to the rest of you out there contemplating the purchase of a BUDGET night vision hunting solution… this is the one to go with. It works way better than I expected it too… but you have to take a few things into account:
1. This takes an ‘exotic’ battery (18650) – it actually needs 3 of them and they aren’t included – my suggestion is that you should buy at least 3 sets of 3 and at least two chargers – an additional investment? Yes, but worth it in the long run.
2. If you don’t mind buying batteries, this will also take 2 x CR123 batteries in place of each rechargeable 18650 battery (so keeping a few of these as back up should your rechargeables run out while hunting is a good idea).
3. The night vision capability of this setup is limited to the power of the IR illuminator that is used with it – the one included is OK for back yards but is not that great… invest in a better IR illuminator – they’re fairly inexpensive and worth their weight in gold if you are an avid night hunter like myself.
4. IMPORTANT: There is no mention of it in the “instruction manual” but the camera is dual purpose day/night – it is color in daylight and monochrome at night BUT it will not work unless, when you switch over from daylight to nighttime shooting, you activate the tiny switch on the back of the camera (it took me a while to figure this out).
5. The screen has 3 buttons on the back: middle is for menu (brightness, saturation (color), and contrast), top is to increase the selection, bottom is to reduce… so if the screen appears too bright, use those buttons to adjust as preferred.
I have mine set up on my Gamo Urban 22 PCP Air Rifle with Counter Sniper™ (Nightforce Optics) 2-16 x 44 TDRM scope and in my half acre back yard (335 feet long) it works just fine for hunting rats and viewing other critters… (see attached video clip)
So, to summarize: As far as BUDGET systems go, this one is great… a few extra minor investments (more batteries, better IR illuminator), it is more than great. It isn’t as good as the ENVG III currently in use by US Special Forces or the AN-PVS 14 that was its predecessor… but then this costs only $170 while the military ones are in the $thousands. Take a reality pill people… this piece of kit is great for what it is and as the saying goes… you get what you pay for.

Really nice setup, but didn’t come with batteries. I ordered some 6000 mAh batteries and a smart charger separately and received them yesterday. Charged the batteries and the camera and display worked perfectly. I like the day-night switch location on the camera and the display has good resolution and was bright. Everything works perfectly and I am very satisfied. The illuminator light that comes with this is 850 nm and reaches out far into the darkness with this camera, but the camera also does quite impressively in the dark without any infrared lighting. The illuminator does have a slight red glowing spot visible, when you look directly into the camera in the dark (NOT recommended) but I am told that few critters can see it. Because I want absolute stealth, I ordered and received some 940 nm illuminators and these show not a hint of visible light when looking directly into the beam (again: NOT recommended) in a pitch black room, but the camera picks it up fine in night vision mode. It’s not as bright at 940 nm and the range is reduced but I could still easily see out to a decent range. I have not measured the max distance and your own range will vary with your particular 940 nm light, but I just wanted to report that the camera does see pretty well at 940 nm.

It works exactly as advertised and its great the night vision works perfectly! It duos require a stronger IR flashlight easily rectified with a E bay IR flash light for like 15 bux
lisaiah –
This is not mil-spec. It depends on the or flash light.which I knew when I bought it. I use can see a critter clearly through my scope at 50 yds. Very fun to use, day or night.
Monte anderson –
Mounted it up in 10 minutes, now it takes maybe 3 since I figured out how. I set it up on a 3-12 power 40 mm on an AR. Out of the box with their illuminstor it shows me 100 yard target, 200 yard hog feeder, and even my hog feeder at 300 yards on a dark night. I’d say as is it is coyote no problem out to 200, nice and sharp with my scope. I can turn the scope up to say 8 power at 200 yards and it’s a good night vision image. Any higher it gets fuzzy. You definitely want to use a scope with the adjustable objective as that helps sharpen the image. You use the camera focus to get the cross hairs sharp. I can see racoons feeding on the corn at 200 feeder nice and sharp. I have a better night vision illuminstor I’ll try next week to see what that gets me. All in all its far superior to a gen 2 with a really good illuminstor. I’d say well worth the money.

Works great very pleased with this would definitely recommend this to anyone
Nick Lawson –
Workes great for what I need. I’ve got two coyotes with it already. I’ll be ordering a stronger ir flashlight but the one it comes with isn’t bad. If you want night vision without the cost, this is the way to go. I put it on my .243 bolt action and it works great. It took about 10 minutes to put on and you may need higher scope mounts to clear your bolt, I did.
Happy camper –
Excellent little unit for the price there is nothing close to this available. Use it for rats and it’s deadly
Devan L –
I’m more than happy with this product! More than i expected it to be, from its pretty powerful inferred light to the clear monitor screen! I can very easily see in pitch black with no problems! A big bang for your buck!
neil wilkinson –
Once it is on the gun it is a pain to take off. Will not mount on the wall with the screen attached. Display is awesome day and night. I found the IR flashlight acceptable for my use.
Tex –
For the price you cant beat it. I put mine on a air rifle.
James Simon –
Awesome gadget for the money….endless possibilities.
Richard Kapp –
I used this on a hog hunt in Texas 2 pigs. I even got a rabbit at 70 yards when I got bored. At ground level all animals eye lit up. In elevated stand hogs didn’t light up as good.
alf –
Awesome! Lights up the night! Does anyone know how to set this up to record video?
D. Hutson –
have a ATN 4K scope and the picture on this is as good as that is. You’re limited ot range by the IR included with it. I used another more powerful IR light and can see 100 yds or more no problem.
O. Ogden –
This thing works great!
Awesome for Rat hunting.
Sef –
First off, it is a much cheaper solution than a dedicated night vision scope. Plenty of range for my 22, with the added flash light even more. NOTE- BATTERIES SOLD SEPARATELY. I didn’t pay attention and had to wait to get batteries before I could try it out.
Take a good look at the diagrams, there are zero directions. For the small objective on my 22 scope, this is hard to fit. They send it with some tape to put around the scope- in a normal setting that would be to keep the scope from getting scratched but with a small scope, you have to wrap a lot on it. All in all, I am happy with the purchase and glad I got it.
texase –
Good clarity. It rivals atn 4ks when using a good quality ir light.Customer service was awesome.
ken –
The upgrade version with the proper collet is definitely worth it, as you don’t need to wrap your scope in tape to protect it from the set screw mount. (upgrade version contains both mounting types) I also love the system’s modularity, you’re not stuck with a bulky lousy built-in IR light. The IR light it comes with is surprisingly good, however with a better IR illuminator you can reach out hundreds of yards. There really is no distance limit, you just want an increasingly powerful IR light. Accuracy and POI is maintained. It takes a little getting used to in order to shoot with it, just because your normal cheek weld isn’t a thing since you’re looking at the screen. I got one, showed it to my friends, they got them. Eveyrone loves it. Also the flashlight mount is “universal” so can mount any light as long as the head isn’t too large a diameter. There are two nitpicks I’d make:
1) This company should offer a version without the included IR light. If you don’t have an IR light it is good, but the maybe 20$ the IR light adds to the price isn’t really worth it for those of us who already have IR illuminators.
2) Under some of my magnum rifles (heavy recoil), the system restarts every time you shoot resulting in a brief screen interruption. Maybe this is because batteries are shaken in the holder and lose contact? Hard to say. Some sort of optional recoil sled or recoil isolation system for the screen would be a nice accessory.
Would recommend, would buy again. Great NV functionality at a very modest price.

Good clarity. It rivals atn 4ks when using a good quality ir light.Customer service was awesome.
Richard –
Took some slight modification to fit this on our our scope. We can still use it, but it is not a good connection. As far at the unit itself…works really great! Have no issues with the viewing unit.
LuckyD88 –
Put it through it’s paces several days after I received it. The clarity of the screen is amazingly crisp. Works very well for what I needed to do which is rodent control out to ten to fifteen yards. If I was to find fault with this package, I would point out that the ir flashlight that was included was too bright…but maybe that’s a good thing for some people.
